Catharine was born in the foothills of some mountains, a few years ago. She grew up in a regular family, with several siblings of the semi-normal kind, and a few cats that didn’t make it. Growing up shaped her life into what it is today, and she has said before that she wouldn’t be who she is without it. She enjoys doing things, like her fellow people, and has been known to say that not doing things would make her a pretty dull person. But sadly, even though she does things, Catharine is far from being interesting in any way, so there’s only a bit to tell, which isn’t much at all.

I love making things that are strangely reminiscent of outer space, with twisting shapes and vibrant colors. Old sailors braving the frigid north wind, Victorian girls entering the chilly Victorian society, wary Wall Street businessmen, gentle old ladies knitting away the night; my painting attempts to echo the stories of those passersby that you forget even as they walk past your window. Vintage style, with rich colors and simple lines, inspires. I try to incorporate the past into everything I paint. (Unless I’m painting the future, that is.)
My studio is an airy corner room that catches the morning sun in summer, and the midnight moon in winter. The walls are pasty white underneath, but on top I’ve painted whatever comes to mind. Blue skies, puffy white clouds, and an old hermit sits in the nook of a tree trunk. A Martian landscape with purple Malacandrian spires.

My goal in life? To thoroughly enjoy God’s creation, and then to go home to the Lord one day. Hopefully I’ll paint a few pictures along the way.
My favorite song right now is Nightcall by Kavinsky.
Artists currently inspiring me to work harder are as follows: Eric Blegvad, Amy Grimes, Howard & Katharine Pyle, N.C Wyeth, and H.R Millar.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. 12 I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; 13 also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.” Ecclesiastes 3:11-13
